Heheh... I guess so!!! 'Course if she did play it in concert, she'd need audience-participation for the handclapping part of it. She
got everyone to join in on "Invisible Ink" though on that live performance for the 2nd LIS disc...
Oh well, maybe one day!
I still can't wait to hear these new songs she's been playing... that DVD's gonna be timed just right as an appetizer right before
her new album comes out next year! Guess I'm still gonna have to buy 'Jersey Girl' when it comes out to hear "That's
How I Knew the Story Would Break My Heart"...

i could be wrong, but i would think that since the new cd is coming out several months after the live dvd/cd, it probably won't have any of the
new songs on it.
"that's how i knew this story would break my heart" was just slightly under 2 minutes long and fades in during dialogue, there are a
few things going on during it, and it fades to dialogue.
it's not a complete song, but it's interesting enough i would like to hear the rest of it.
it may be one of those songs like aimee's cover of james taylor's "shed a little light" on "the west wing" that
will never see a finished version. that's a shame.

haha Tommy!
since some people here like the song I have suffered through it a few times while listening to the album recently. Its not as bad as I first thought.
I can't believe someone thought she was saying "you can fuck me on the back of the bus" instead of "read the fine print on
the back of the box". That makes me laugh when I hear it. I still get that urge to skip it though!

i think people realize that. she played all those 'til tuesday songs she never plays any more when they first came out. i believe people are
interested in why she doesn't play it any more.

I have a superball. It is a very good toy.
I don't like it as much as my doll, Sally.
Slinkys are fun too!

Devils advocate
You just had to bring this thread back again didn't you.
I don't think it's cruel I think it's sweet and this song should be done on Sesame Street.

I decided it was time to revive the Superball thread from its four-year sabbatical. Turns out she has performed it live:

Sounds pretty awesome to me.

I've always liked "Superball" - not one of Aimee's most challenging, lyrically, but it perfectly fills the spot on the disk
following "You Could Make A Killing". I also dig how the 'velocity is gathering' line rears its ominous head at the end of
"All Over Now". As for being too 'poppy', nah. That role is oh-so capably filled by "That's Just What You
Are", which is one of the best pop songs ever! It seems to me that "Choice In The Matter" would be the most likely follow up
single.
Thanks for resurrecting the thread, it prompted me to dig the disk out and give it a spin. I'd forgotten how sweet the crunchy guitars and
layers of sound are...sort of Aimee & Jon's take on "Pet Sounds".

Wow years later.... but I agree with this! The song's also pretty damn catchy, one of her catchiest, in my opinion. I love those claps and the
'And I waaarn you now, the velocity I'm gooing will knooock you ooout'. And that 'ReeRREERr' guitar riff, with the
awesome inclusion in 'All Over Now'.. I think it's great.
I don't understand t he hate on for it. I can think of MANY Aimee songs I dislike a LOT more: Beautiful, Ray, That's How I Knew...,
Calling it Quits, etc..
Even after all that rushing around, where we've ended up is the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. And maybe knowing isn't the
point. Where we're standing right now, in the ruins in the dark, what we could build is anything.

It's a funny one. I still listen to it though, as I do the whole album. I just love the guitars at the end!

It's funny.....I love any Aimee song that is somewhat uptempo...Superball....Fifty Years After....Ghost World...Ballantines.
I just think Superball is so catchy. And yes, the guitars at the end....excellent.
Way underrated.

I must admit I'm also at a loss as to why Superball is received as an unpopular song...?
To consider it as a deliberate commercial attempt seems way wide of the mark, I'd consider other Aimee works to have 'hit single'
written across them first. Even if it was written as blatant attempt to ride the singles chart, so what...?
Too many musical snobs in the world I'd say, and too many who refuse to embrace 'pop' music for the simple, effective entertainment
it is...
Superball is to me an insightful lyric and a great (dare I say FUN) piece of music, and yes that is a fab bit of guitar soloing as well. The entire
album, with it's lo-fi mix and 'home produced' sound always suggested to me an Aimee Mann in her ascendant stride and someone really
enjoying what she was doing (despite the record company hassles)
On top of that, 'I'm With Stupid' takes me back to great and happy place in my own life, one of those soundtrack albums to a happy
year, 1995 !
Rock on Aimee !!

Superballs
So while at the zoo one of the elephants was stuffing straw into his ears...um I guess I would too if I had a bunch of brats screaming their heads
off. Perhaps some people feel the same way about this song but Superball was one of the first songs I liked. People want to say that it was
"commercial" but it was the dissonance of the song drew me in.
and people who scream this over and over during a concert "superball, we wanna hear superball!" how bout we want to hear Aimee Mann
play
