Aimee's cover of "Too Many People"

I just received my copy of the WFMU Tribute To Ram in the mail. Aimee's cover of "too many people" is nice. I can't imagine it ever being my favorite Aimee song (or even my favorite Aimee cover song), but it's still great. I'm not sure how rare the CD is (it was a promo giveaway from a charity event for the radio station), but if anyone sees a copy I would grab it if I were you. I must admit though, I am unfamiliar with Wings (they were before my time). Was this song a single for them?

Technically it's not a Wings track, since the Ram album is credited to "Paul and Linda McCartney." The Wings name debuted on the next album. In addition to being the opening track on Ram, "Too Many People" was the B-side of "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey," which was a #1 hit in the US.

Is "WFMU Tribute To Ram" the title of the tribute album? (I imagine I'll have a better chance of finding it if I know what I'm looking for.)

Here's all the info direct from the CD.

DOG: A Best Show ON WFMU Tribute To Ram

1. Aimee Mann: Too Many People

2. The Royal Purple: 3 Legs

3. Portastatic: Ram On

4. Death Cab For Cutie: Dear Boy

5. Dump: Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey

6. Hank IV: Smile Away

7. The Black Hollies: Heart Of The Country

8. Danielson: Monkberry Moon Delight

9. Cynthia Santiglia with the Thrillingtons: Eat At Home

10. Spider Bags: Long Haired Lady

11. Themeweavers, LLC: Ram On (reprise)

12. Ted Leo: The Back Seat Of My Car

13. The Barbaras: Another Day

14. The Stones Throw Singers: Oh Woman Oh Why

I've honestly never heard of most of these groups or singers. It may be tough CD to find. It came as a gift for a $75 donation earlier this year. It's not on Ebay as of yet. Best of luck though.

I also received my copy yesterday. And I do think it will prove to be a really rare disc.

As you can see the album is a recreation of McCartney's Ram album, plus two bonus tracks (which are actually on current editions of McCartney's Ram CD).

Aimee's version of "Too Many People", is a nice sort of unplugged version. It was produced by Michael Penn and features him on several instruments and also Jim Boggia on backing vocals and a bunch of instruments.

I do really like it, but I think my favorite Aimee covers are "One" and "Baby Blue". My favorite track on this album is Ted Leo's version of "Back Seat of My Car".

I love this song!

Aimee and Michael appear to be working together more recently with this and his "Bollywood Hero" music. I wish they would revive "Acoustic Vaudeville" or at least release the live album!

I also think Aimee (maybe with Michael) should record an album of Beatle (& former-Beatle) songs. I'd buy it!

I would also love a copy of Too Many People!

I was lucky enough to see a very rare acoustic Aimee show at Park West in Chicago. She was incredible. She even took requests from the audience.

Do you know what I mean?
