Aimee Mann Digital Store Online Now!
We are launching the Aimee Mann digital store! You can now buy Aimee's digital songs directly on aimeemann.com!
All songs are available as MP3s and lossless FLAC files! (We've even included a lower quality 128kb MP3 option for a discounted price!)
Most of Aimee's SuperEgo catalog is available, including all the b-sides, and album only tracks! We collected as many of Aimee's b-sides,
live, and "album only" tracks as we could. Included here are the b-sides and acoustic sessions from The Forgotten Arm and Smilers, all the
tracks from disc 2 Lost in Space Special Edition. We will be adding live tracks and other rarities as we get them.
And for a limited time, you can download for free, a live version of Aimee singing "Engine Driver" with members of the Decemberists
backing her up.
It is still a work in progress, but check it out at:

SWEET! I was wondering what was going on with this project. I also like how "Magnolia" was included.
Now if someone can answer. Do you need a special player to play the FLAC files? I had never heard of that term before.

I just bought a lot of the rarities! It's awesome! Now Aimee can go buy herself something nice with the extra income!
Here's some info on FLAC from Wikipedia...
Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) is a file format for lossless audio data compression. During compression, FLAC does not lose quality from the audio
stream, as lossy compression formats such as MP3, AAC, and Vorbis do. Josh Coalson is the primary author of FLAC.
FLAC reduces bandwidth and storage requirements without sacrificing the integrity of the audio source. A digital audio recording (such as a CD track)
encoded to FLAC can be decompressed into an identical copy of the audio data. Audio sources encoded to FLAC are typically reduced to 50–60% of their
original size.[2]
FLAC is suitable for everyday audio playback and archival, with support for tagging, cover art and fast seeking. FLAC's free and open source
royalty-free nature makes it well-supported by many software applications. FLAC playback support in portable audio devices and dedicated audio systems
is limited at this time compared to lossy formats like MP3.[3], but FLAC is supported out of the box by more hardware devices than competing lossless
formats like Wavpack.

Thanks scdupont1. I also should have read the link they have regarding the formats. I just did a test run with 'Backfire' and it sounds
great. It converted it to a .wav file. Here's the link to download the free converter http://flac.sourceforge.net/index.html
Now I have to see if I put that on a CD will it play in my car. I don't think I have ever tried to play a wav in my car. I know it plays
MP3's. I'm gonna have to waste a cd and see what happens. Not sure I want to buy all FLAC if I have to convert it to MP3 anyway.
First time I heard 'Backfire' and what a great song! Thanks Aimee and management (Jill were you involved?) for creating the digital
store. I'll be back for more.

Cool - I think the bonus disc from LIS is freaking amazing (all are also in the Rarities).
Also, I've never had luck playing a .wav file in my car on a CD. It's a Windows Media Player proprietary file format and MP3 is
essentially universal. I have no idea about FLAC...
Anyway, enjoy!

If money is not the primary object, pay the extra $0.30/per and go with FLAC files. You'll have to dink around with them a bit, but it's
always better to start out with more bits and throttle back to a lesser file (aka "lossy" format) than to start low and possibly have to
go lower - as in you get the 256kbps mp3 files and skinny 'em down to 128kbps to port over to a 4gig micro-SD on your phone or something. But
then I come from the video world where the idea is to shoot as high a format as possible and dumb it down in post - shoot 1920x1080/60 regardless of
final destination, then down-res if it's going out low-tech DVDs. You can always dumb down a higher format but can't add bits that
aren't there at the beginning.
If you are just looking to have the tracks in your I-pod or rip some cds for the car, go with the 256 mp3 files.
Regardless of which you choose, this is a smart move - we fans can find rarities and b-sides without having to scrape about on ebay and/or buy used
(which never helps the artist) and the artist finds a new stream of revenue to keep things viable for them. AND, as a bonus for guys like me, I
don't have to have anything to do with I-tunes!

Where do "Salvation" and "Wise Up (alternate recording)" come from? I'm not familiar with those two.
I hope "Too Many People" shows up in the store eventually.

I had nothing to do with putting this together. I do know the idea has been brewing for a while. Will mentioned it on the Mannlist and I think also
here a while ago.
Anyway, I agree that it is a great idea. You can thank Will and the rest of Aimee's management.

Good points airzots. I think I'll go with 10 FLAC for now and see how it goes. I will mainly be using them to put on a CD to play in my car,
but I will also listen to them on my computer.
Jill - whats the Mannlist? I don't think I have heard of that. I do remember, Management, posting here on the board about this. I was
actually going to reply in that thread asking what was going on. But then this popped up.
Thanks Will and the rest of Aimee's management team!! A great idea! Oh and another great idea would be a tour in the mid-west. Just saying
that all

The Mannlist is where Aimee fans used to gather to communicate before there was a message board, and some of us still do. Though, it is much less
active than it used to be.
It is a mailing list that started back in 1996 and has gone few a few iterations since then. I have been the "owner" of the list since
around 2003. You can subscribe here mannlist The
Welcome message includes more info about it. I should probably update those messages a bit, however.

This is definitely a good thing! Also, I'd definitely go with the FLAC! You can download programs to get them to play on your ITunes, so
it's quite easy.
I didn't know about the mannlist. I guess I suck. Must sign up somewhere!

They should make an Aimee Mann coffee cup. I'd buy that.
I can't wear the tshirts, because it's unmanly for a man to wear the tshirt of a female artist -- according to my own set of style rules.
It's like getting a tatoo of a girls name on your arm; you'd better know the girl. A generic band name on the tshirt is ok. I have bought
Aimee Mann tshirts for the wife and daughter.
Coffee cup is ok. Especially with some of that fancy artwork like off the last few albums.

Maybe because I said I liked Derek Jeter?
While we're at it, I don't wear Jeter's or any sports player's shirts either, unless arm gets twisted by daughter to wear Lou
Gehrig shirt at stadium.
There's a poster on youtube -- unstoppable3rd -- that I always assumed was male, and I've recently come to conclusion it's a gal. I
think.

Wasn't there a coffee mug a while back with the artwork from Aimee's arm tattoo? Or was that just the t-shirt?
For a mug, I like Taxali's happy/sad face that is screened on the disk (or at least what I remember to be screened on the disk - it still
hasn't reappeared....) either that or the artwork for "Ballantines", which incorporates that same face theme in the corners. Funny,
I just noticed the t-shirts with the monkey face only use two of the three images and, I guess not too surprisingly, the smiling image is the one
omitted.

"Salvation" is a b-side from Smilers. Actually, the file tag is "Fucking Smilers - Bonus".
I can see why it was left out, as it's quite different from the other songs on the album, but I love it. Love its "retro" melody.

Track details?
Management -
Would it be possible to list where the track came from? Such as "Lost in Space Special Edition Disc 2" or "B-side to Humpty
Dumpty"? That detail shows up on some of them but not all; I like alternate versions of songs, but I'd rather not end up with something
I've already bought.
Thanks.

Coffee cup - yay!!!! I love that idea.
And, Antuck, really? I have known two girls called "Lou"... usually short for "Louise" or "Louisa"?
I don't know why I assumed female! I really don't know. I think maybe I made that default assumption because (this may be totally
wrong)... uh... there seem to be more women online than men? I mean, who actually write a lot. Do you know what I mean? (I'm going to get into
trouble here!) Obviously there are a lot of guys, but... uh... Maybe it's the lower case "l"!! Less... male... seeming... ?

LOL no need to shut up and hide.
Sorry but yes it is true, I don't know any 'Lou' as a female. But as you put it I have seen those names before and now that I think
of it Louann is a name I remember from grade school. Surprised myself by being able to go that far back.
Interesting assumption on the female to male internet. I had always thought the opposite. Men tend to be more visual and women are more touch. The
internet is all about visual. So I always figured more men to be on the net. Now the writing alot, if you mean that women can communicte more then
men, then I would say mostly true. But I know some men that truely never shut up.
Anyway I was just curious and thought I would ask. Thanks for letting me know.
When can we order the coffee cups

FLAC files! Squee!
At first, I didn't care for FLAC, because the files are bigger, and took up more space on my hard drive. However, I've learned to like
FLAC audio, because the fidelity is better.
I've tried several FLAC audio file players, and my favorite if the VU player: http://www.vuplayer.com/vuplayer.php
It doesn't just play FLAC and it's easy to use. Also, with other players, you can only play one song at a time; but with the VU player,
you can load entire files. VU also plays APE, WAV, your CDs, etc.
No, I don't work for VU. lol
forgot to say, I didn't download my player from the official site; I dl'ed mine from brothersoft.com, and although VU hasn't been
updated in quite a while compared to other software, it still works fine on my new computer, which has Vista 64-bit whatchacallit.

VU player is great! You can also get it from CNET's download.com site. It doesn't appear to have been updated since rev 2.49 back in early
'08 but it's open-source so you might want to search for tweaks and install at your own risk tolerance. I'm looking at a couple of
their other progs and the VUmeter looks sweet! I may try the VUrecorder after I read up on it a bit more. I'm happy with Audacity for simple
stuff, but it chokes on FLAC and tweaking the noise filters is a real artform...
re: FLAC files. I said it above but it bears repeating, default to getting the highest quality files you can handle depending on drive space, wallet,
player, etc. Like getting a digital photo - if it's already down-res'd to 100K you are dramatically limited to what you can do with it,
but if you have the raw original file, the world is your oyster! Whatever that saying means...
Here's the next suggestion to Management - make live shows available in the download store (starting with the recent show at the Wiltern, it
sounds tremendous!) Crowded House does it quite successfully, here's a f'rinstance:
http://www.crowdedhouselive.com/live-music/0,1907/Crowded-House-mp3-flac-download-9-9-2007-Orpheum-Theatre-Minneapolis-MN.html
It's a great memento of a show! Trashcan Sinatras are selling their shows immediately afterward on a flash drive, but the files are only 128K
mp3 which is the compromise for getting it right away.
